This is my second post for today. I didn’t mean to write up a blog post but decided that I should so that other people can easily find the link, too. My friend Becca is running a hop called The Hop to Stop to raise awareness since October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To read about domestic violence facts, policies, and other information, you can check out the National Coalition against Domestic Violence. I took a class in graduate school on violence against women and wrote papers about this specifically, but I won’t share them all here. As a social worker, I’ve come across countless people who were victims of violence and saw first-hand how it impacted all aspects of their lives. It certainly helps to educate yourself about these things so you can either advocate or support victims or bring change to the system. There are still so many services and help that victims and their families lack. They continue to be stigmatized and blamed, but honestly, no one truly understand how hard it is until one has been in that unfortunate circumstance himself.
In regards to the hop, there are many prizes to be won for your participation, and all you have to do is link up a new project using the color purple. You have until October 14 to add your project to her page. Here’s a list of sponsors:
I’ve been meaning to use Altenew Painted Flowers for a while now and decided to create some simple cards. I cannot wait to receive the new purple inks they released since I can’t seem to get good combinations using the ink pads I have.
All I did was some basic stamping since I needed quick, clean and simple cards. I love quotes. I will collect stamp sets if they have words that uplift or inspire. Do you love collecting quotes? I have many written in notebooks, emails, and other places. Being highly perceptive, I pay attention to how words are used, how they impact your cognitive perceptions and, thus, influence behavior. Words are powerful. When we think of violence, we only think of physical abuse. It goes beyond that. People can mentally and emotionally abuse, and sometimes, that can leave deeper, irreversible scars. But people are resilient, too. Words can empower to move from victim status to one of survivor. Kindness goes a long way. Be kind, for you never know what people are going through.
Have a great day.
Thank you for all the love! ?
