Happy Birthday

Hello 🙂 Yesterday, I shared two cards using one background stamp. Today, I am sharing two more designs. The one thing that drew me to papercrafting was the concept of heat embossing. It amazes me how much you can do with something that is embossed. It’s perfect for watercoloring!

For both cards, I stamped Roses All Over onto watercolor cardstock using my MISTI and Versamark Ink. I get the best impression because I can press down on all sides firmly. I wouldn’t recommend stamping multiple times though because VersaMark is a sticky ink that spreads out (especially on smooth paper like vellum). I heat set with white embossing powder.

For the first card, I watercolored with my Winsor & Newton watercolor paints (any watercolor medium will do – I didn’t feel like taking out my distress inks). I made sure to get really light pigments and dabbing with tissue to remove dark spots. Once it was dry, I added some drops of black paint. I die-cut the word ‘happy’ a few times and layered over the background (I mention this tip in my post on my fave uses for Dies). The sentiment birthday is from WPlus9’s newest release but I only stamped one word from the phrase. I finished it off with some clear sequins from The Ton.

For my second card, I watercolored with different colors. One way to tone down bright colors is to add a piece of vellum over it so that’s what I did. I used my ATG gun to tape it down – it didn’t really show through because of the bright background. I die-cut the same word but in black (because black + colors is awesome). I added the same birthday word and did not add sequins because the background was colorful enough 🙂
