Tell us a little about yourself and your craft journey.

Hello! I am Erum Tasneem , some of you know me as E.T. I am from Karachi, Pakistan. I am a servant to an army of cats and I absolutely love them. I blog at VIBGYOR Krafts and run a wee home based business by the name Glitter & Swirls. I have been crafting since as long as I can remember. I used to colour a lot, made cards out of colouring pages and give to people on special occasions. When I was in 2nd grade, my uncle introduced me to heat embossing and stamping when he came back from Japan; the whole process was like magic to me! I started blogging about my work very late (2008), after completing my Masters. By 2010 I launched Glitter & Swirls and started selling my work online.

What are you most grateful for in regards to crafting?

The immensely generous and amazing people I met along the way and still finding precious souls everyday. These super fantastic people, my friends, they are what kept me going even when I thought I did absolutely ridiculous work because I didn’t have any craft supplies. They cheered me on and complimented me on thinking out of the box. I am pretty sure if I didn’t have the support of my blog buddies, I would’ve completely given up on crafting.

What inspires you to create?

Everyday things really. Sometimes it’s a dress, sometimes a painting and sometimes just talking to crafty people. Anything can click a light bulb in my head and when it happens, I HAVE to just stand up and start crafting right away – I.can.not.stop.

How do you personally define success?

You know how they say “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”? It is completely opposite to that, this lies within you. If you are content with what you are doing then you may consider yourself successful.

What do you hope to improve on in the following year?

I am all over the place at the moment. I would like to get better at organizing my life i.e everyday chores and to-do list all planned and listed. I have tried to maintain a planner and failed terribly. Though my client orders and business related stuff is in order thanks to my cousin.

What is the most wonderful part of being you?

I have a big heart when it comes to animals esp strays and I really wish everyone would be the same and help the voiceless when they are in need. If you can’t adopt, foster. If you cant foster, donate. Other than this I am a complete nutter and there’s nothing wonderful about that :p

What would you like to simplify in your life?

Everything. I want to cry :p

What advice do you have for new crafters?

“To live a creative life we must lose our fear of being wrong”. Keep trying even if you fail a hundred times. You will get better and eventually be one of the best. Be original, be you and this is what will make you stand out.

I have two cards to share with you today. I am one of those people who make two of everything since I cant finalize which design looks better and also because I love to colour!

Not a lot of difference between the two. For the one on the left I have used the textured side of the paper to colour and the plain side for one on the right. I liked the result of the one on the right.
I have used the inspiration picture from Altenew’s August challenge for my colour palette.

Here are my cards separately.

IMG_0329

Stamps are by Altenew (Magnolias for her), dies by Papertrey Ink. I have used just one black Faber Castell classic pencil to colour these, you can clearly see the texture of the paper. The ombre effect on hugs is created using distress inks.

This one uses Altenew’s Magnolias for Her and Golden Garden stamp sets, again coloured using only black Faber Castell classic colour pencil. Lots of masking on this one. I like the effect of the pencil on the plain side, it gave me more freedom to add depth and shading. The die is by Papertrey Ink, the ombre effect is created using distress inks. I also clear embossed the diecut.

Thats it from my side! I hope you liked my cards, if yes then do stop by my Instagram I have made some brilliantly amazing friends there!

A big thanks to Erum for being a guest today and sharing so much of herself! Go follow her for lots of beautiful inspiration!! 🙂

I don’t know how I got here but I’m so glad I did. I can’t believe you coloured these gorgeous cards with just one black pencil. They are absolutely FABULOUS. Hope you don’t mind me finding you on Facebook and follow you. Tfs. X

Erum is definitely in a league of her own when it comes to creating gorgeous cards – the detail and colouring on each one is always fantastic! Love how she takes an image (stamp) and gives it such depth with something as simple as just a colouring medium. I just had to PIN these 2 works of art to my Altenew Pin Board 🙂

I can relate to the need to “stand up and start crafting right away,” when inspiration hits, I almost have a panic attack if the opportunity passes me by.
