I’m happy to introduce my next guest: Mayline Jung!! Please check out her work on Instagram, her blog, and her YouTube channel – you won’t regret following her! Her work is sooo beautiful! I’ve been her fan since day 1 🙂
Don’t forgive to visit my earlier guests. You can also find all of the posts under Guesting (in the bar menu at the top of my site):
Tell us a little about yourself and your craft journey.
My name is Mayline Jung. I am Korean and moved to Canada in 2008. I have a wonderful and supportive husband. I love arts, design and paper crafting, especially card making. It was by chance in 2012 that I watched a cardmaking tutorial on YouTube. Immediately, I fell in love with the craft so I watched tutorials for an entire year and finally at the end of 2013, I decided to try to make cards. This is my short story on how my love for making cards began.
What are you most grateful for in regards to crafting?
First of all, I love sending my handmade cards to people whom I love for birthday, appreciation, graduation and so on. Second, I love becoming friends with people who love papercrafting in the crafting community. We haven’t met but they are always kind, supportive and encouraging like true friends who I’ve known for a very long time. Lastly, I love love love to see other people’s creations! They have great artistic talents.
What inspires you to create?
When I started cardmaking, I was inspired by watching YouTube tutorial or seeing other designers works on Pinterest and blogs. Since I joined Design Teams, the product itself inspires me to create. And also I get some ideas from recent fashion trend such as clothing, shoes, bags, home decor, etc.
What do you hope to improve on in the following year?
It’s Calligraphy! This is one of my biggest desires to improve on in the following year. I have been interested in Calligraphy for a couple of years but still my skill is not improved. I am looking for online calligraphy class. If you know some online classes which you love, please let me know 🙂
What is the most wonderful part of being you?
It’s a tough question. I think I’d have to say being honest. I learned that if you are not honest you never make a good relationship and you cannot have people who love you and people who I love. And I am hard worker. 😊
What would you like to simplify in your life?
Haha.. I want to simplify my craft stuff which I do not use. My room is already full enough to contain craft stuff. It’s really hard to throw away my craft stuff that I don’t need. I have many stuff such as tools, stamps, pattern paper, coloring tools and so but I think 10% of stuff I use frequently and 30% of stuff sometime I use and… the rest of them I rarely use or use only one time especially for stamps 😁. Awwww..
What advice do you have for new crafters?
Don’t get stressed about following a trend, Don’t be afraid to share your cards or your creations, Don’t compare your work to others. All creations that you made are beautiful and great. The most important thing is “enjoy your card craft time”
Now for my card!
To start off, I stamped flowers and leave image from Wild Hibiscus from Altenew stamp set using Distress ink “Scattered Straw” on watercolor paper. For the coloring, I used a no-line watercolor technique that is one of my favorite techniques. I colored the images with watercolor paint first, then added some fine details with the Wink of Stella ( GL.Pink025, GL.LT.Pink026 and GL.Green040). And I drew small ash tree leaves and blueberries. Next I die cut word “sending” from Simon Says Stamp. And then I stamped a sentiment in white pigment ink on the black cardstock. Then I fussy cut it and taped it down on the paper. Lastly I adhered the card panel to the card base.
A big thanks to Mayline for being a guest today and sharing so much of herself! Go follow her for lots of beautiful inspiration!! 🙂
