Pinkfresh Studio | Fancy Florals
Hello, my craft friends! I’m on the Pinkfresh Studio Blog today, focusing on the Fancy Floral 1 Die. It is definitely my style, and I show several of my favorite ways of using cover plate dies. You can pair it with Fancy Floral 2 Die for a layered look, but I chose to use Fancy Floral 1 Die alone.
PROJECTS
Everyone approaches their creative work differently. When I make cards, I usually like to have all the pieces ready before I color. With a newborn, life can get unpredictable so I do not normally work on a card from start to finish in one sitting.
I started by die-cutting several panels of the Fancy Floral 1 Die using different cardstock: heavy-weight smooth white cardstock, watercolor paper, and glossy black cardstock.
Let’s start with the easiest card. For the background, I used Yupo paper and rainbow alcohol markers that I simply colored across. I trimmed it down to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and glued it to a white cardbase. Then I glued the glossy black panel over it. Almost all my cards have a sentiment on the outside, but for this one, I decided to stamp the sentiment inside.
For the next card, I decided to color the white cardstock panel with Copic markers. For the background, I used shimmer paste in blue and green to create a dreamy background representing fields and a sky. I glued the colored panel over it. The sentiment is from Always Flowers, stamped with clear embossing ink and heat-embossed with white embossing powder. I love the way the black and white contrast with all the color.
For the last card, I decided to go with my signature style of messy watercoloring. I used the recently released Liquid Watercolors. I finished it off with some black and white paint splatters and glued the panel to a black cardbase when it was dry. I finished it off with a sentiment from Bird with Flowers.
There are many ways to use cover dies. You can do ink blending, use color cardstock, pattern paper, cut out parts of the panel for a different look. The ideas are endless! I hope this inspires you to create today.
